25 Thoughts on Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce

Jo and Abby dressed as Crazy Eyes and Bonnie at a costume benefit on Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce

  1. These #GG2D schools are rough business. There’s more drama than Julliard.
  2. Will is not in Nepal. He is in Chi-Town enjoying deep-dish at Uno Pizzeria.
  3. How long has Jo been drying plates by rubbing them against her butt? How does she dry steak knives?
  4. Delia is the only woman who can combine those shades of red and purple without looking like she’s in the Red Hat Society.
  5. Could Lily sulk more? Is it humanly possible? No wonder Abby wants to ship her off to Camp Pontiac. Man is that kid glum.
  6. Jo’s daughter Zoe is so much sweeter. She can stay home this summer, lounge by the pool and do Instagram or Vine videos or whatever it is teens do.
  7. Abby’s mistake was telling Jake about her Wet Hot American Summer. Husbands don’t need to know all that. Just stick to stories about campfires and bug juice and call it a day. This show is obsessed with the phrase “finger banged.”
  8. Abby was peeling an orange during her meeting with Jake about the settlement. Oranges are a classic trope foretelling death. The Godfather anyone? Does this symbolize the real end of the #Jabby marriage? I don’t think so. I may or may not be spending too much time analyzing this show. Don’t judge me!
  9. I like Phoebe and Marco. I’m trying to make a #Pharco ship happen.
  10. Where is Victor Webster? Is he in Chicago with Will enjoying deep-dish at Uno Pizzeria?
  11. Delia, I let you get away with the red and purple, but that bright pink is dancing close to the edge. I’m taking you to The Limited for some Olivia Pope neutrals until you settle yourself down.
  12. Gordon is  so mean. He’s being a jerk. Even if Delia’s wearing that horrific pink, she does not deserve this.
  13. Gordon should hop a plane to Chicago and sit by himself. He does not get to sit at the cool table with Will and Victor Webster enjoying deep-dish at Uno Pizzeria.
  14. Jay McLaren Brooks. Oh, to see his face when he read that reference about the hoodie in the script. You know the one. Nobody can say #GG2D is timid.
  15. Since there’s an Orange is the New Black theme at this costume benefit, it’s too bad the show couldn’t get Laverne Cox back. I guess that’s too meta.Laverne Cox and J. August Richards on Girlfriends Guide to Divorce
  16. Jake fell down on the job. Why was he not buying baubles for Abby? Abby deserves baubles. Jake gets involved with women who have more money than him, like Miss CW. I guess he expects them to buy him baubles.
  17. Wait, what? What was that business with Zoe and the burger phone? Is it rotary dial or push-button? Kids don’t know how to use a landline. I don’t know what’s going on, but I still think she’s a sweet kid. I would not ship her off to Camp Pontiac.
  18. #Pharco is over already? I just made up that hashtag. Ugh.
  19. Josh Groban is going to be so mad when he sees the flowers and ring Delia got.
  20. Nice moment #Jabby, but Will is on his way home from “Nepal.” Nepal is code for going to Chicago and enjoying deep-dish at Uno Pizzeria with Victor Webster.
  21. Will is almost there, Jabby. Wrap it up.
  22. Will is at the door!
  23. He’s ringing the bell!
  24. Come on Abby, let’s get to that door!
  25. Oh God, this show is going to kill me.

I miss Janeane Garofalo. I love Lisa Edelstein. This show is tepid to me. I can’t get the hype over it. I keep hearing it is ground breaking and yet I’ve seen it all before. Hell, I lived it. Not a great show but I’ll keep watching hoping it will improve.

Perhaps the term groundbreaking refers to the fact that it is on Bravo, you know what I mean? The network generally features weave-snatching, table-flipping, glass-throwing “real” women. The “real” men don’t come off much better. In that way, it’s refreshing. I wonder if the network will branch out.

Cute list. The comment on Laverne Cox. That was a wasted guest spot. Name-dropping to get viewers? Poorly done. The writing needs a boost here, maybe it’ll happen in Season 2.

Thank you, Kristin. I would like to have seen more of Laverne Cox, too. I’d also like to see more of her on Orange is the New Black. She landed a CBS pilot so I’m looking forward to that.
