The Bachelorette Season 11 — Episode 8

Kaitlyn Bristowe and Cupcake on The BacheloretteSpecial contributor Andrée H. really, really, really likes The Bachelorette, but this season is thorny because Kaitlyn is getting on her nerves. I think it’s some sort of Canadian beef, don’t get involved. Andrée is protective of Shawn, Kaitlyn better watch her back. — Elaine F.

Broken Records, tears and guilt trips,  that about sums up this episode. If you are not a fan of seeing grown men cry…no…sob, then this isn’t the episode for you. Of course we see Kaitlyn crying quite a lot in this episode as well, but at this point in the season I think we have all established that we couldn’t care less about her or her feelings. The tears start with Shawn, continue with Kaitlyn, and end with Cupcake bawling on a cliff.

We pick up from last week’s cliffhanger, with Shawn and Kaitlyn in her hotel room discussing their relationship. Shawn asks her if she’s in love with him and she calls him out for putting her on the spot and worries that she gave him too much reassurance. Well, clearly telling a guy that he’s “the one” early on in The Bachelorette is a mistake, Kaitlyn, rules are rules for a reason. She does tell Shawn him that she is falling for  him, which is enough to satisfy Shawn. In an interview, Kaitlyn reveals that was just so terrified that Shawn had visited to confront her about the pre-fantasy suite sex with Nick; she can’t handle him leaving. [Editor’s Note: Psst, you didn’t hear it from me, but I think Andrée is the one who can’t handle him leaving — E.F.]

Time for the two-on-one date with Joe and JJ. Joe uses their alone time to tell Kaitlyn that he’s falling for her. Things don’t go as well for JJ, who reveals that he cheated on his ex-wife and feels really bad because it destroyed his life. Boohoo. The bachelorette kicks him off five minutes later, but she’s nice about it, saying she doesn’t want to keep JJ away from his kid. Poor Joe, even though he’s not a self-confessed cheater, she tells him she hasn’t decided yet if he is getting the rose. The boring date continues, then he gets the rose and rushes to tell the guys that he too is falling in love, Shawn blows a gasket.

Shawn — again — heads to Kaitlyn’s room and she — again — freaks out and cries, thinking that he found out that had pre-fantasy suite sex with Nick. She — again — says she regrets giving him too much reassurance too soon. It’s at this point that I had to restrain myself from throwing my mimosa at her head. Perfect time to say, “Hey, look, maybe you are freaking out because I had sex with Nick last week and you sensed it, sorry ’bout that, Buddy.” But no, she lies by omission and makes him feel guilty. Nice one.

The rose ceremony starts on ominous note, as usual, as the bachelorette flees the room, causing all the guys to question what’s going on. Shawn knows, but keeps it to himself. Ben H. pulls Kaitlyn aside and tells her that he could tell from Shawn’s face that they took some off-camera time for a late-night talk. Ben’s hurt because it was the first time he realized that Kaitlyn shares a connection with someone else. The bachelorette feels bad about hurting Ben and she seems pleasantly surprised that he’s been feeling this way for so long. Time for more Shawn and Kaitlin time, she says she wrecked things by telling him too much too soon, and the best thing for their relationship, is to take a step back. Just what he wanted to hear.

After eliminating Tanner and Ben Z. in the rose ceremony, Kaitlyn and her men embark on a road trip to Killarney, Ireland. The guys  take a bus, except for Jared, who gets to take a car-rid with Kaitlyn. Of course, they kiss the Blarney stone, then they make out at the hotel. I kind go fell asleep. Fun fact: Locals like to get drunk and piss all over the Blarney Stone at night so that tourists have a special treat. Kaitlyn and Jared kissed piss and then each other — how romantic.

The best part of the episode happened when Chris Harrison drops by Kaitlin’s room and tells her that since she has had off-camera time with some men and not others, it is only fair to give the other fellas a chance. In a break from tradition she’s going to have three overnight fantasy dates, and then she will meet two families only. I laughed so hard I fell off the couch. [Editor’s Note: I’m not sure how many mimosas Andrée sipped. — E.F.] Good move Bachelorette, this will keep things interesting! The question I have is will she use that opportunity to have sex with Nick again and then do Shawn for the first time? I’m guessing Ben H. probably also gets a fantasy date  just because he is the best-looking of the rest of the bunch. So she’s going to meet the families of guys that she banged the week before? Is she going to go there? She so is.

On a private date, Kaitlyn and Chris take a helicopter ride and look a the beautiful coastline and he thinks he is the luckiest guy on the planet. They have a picnic and everything is going fine until he asks her how she is doing. Kaitlyn has a breakdown and tells him that she doesn’t see them together forever and her heart is elsewhere. They both weep as and leaves him by himself and hops in the helicopter. The episode ends with Chris bawling into his scarf on the cliff. Did the bachelorette really think it was wise to just leave him there? A second helicopter should have shown up or something. Do you think that she cried or took in the scenery on her helicopter ride back? I’m thinking the latter.

The previews make it look like Kaitlyn is going to ‘fess up about sleeping with Nick. This pleases me, but again, why not do it when you had the chance before? She’s already dating multiple men, she can’t pile of lie, too. What is this I Wanna Marry Harry? Pull it together Kaitlyn. Wifey up.

I can’t wait for next episode. I love that the show is doing everything in their power to get her to sleep with more of them. C’mon Kaitlyn — we all know you aren’t going to find love — but the show is going to love those ratings!!!
