Wanna Watch Some TV?
Welcome to TV Recappers’ Delight, a new site devoted to television. A little info about our viewing tastes:
- We like a colorful cast. The shows we’re kicking things off with are Sleepy Hollow and How to Get Away with Murder. Both shows feature black female leads in the kind of kick-ass dramatic and adventurous roles which until recently were nonexistent. We can all bow at the altar of Scandal for that one. Tip your white hat to Olivia Pope, Gladiators.
- Don’t think for a minute that we don’t enjoy some monochromatic shows. When Downton Abbey returns, we will be all over that like Lady Edith on a prospective boyfriend.
- We love any female character who can crush her opponents and look good doing it. All hail Kalinda on The Good Wife, We want her wardrobe, too, by the way. Buffy Summers and Veronica Mars also come to mind. We award extra points for tiny women who can perform a good headlock or at least crush you with bon mots.
- We enjoy fresh, surprising characters. There will never be another Omar Little. A gleeful, black, gay stick-up man with a code (he only ripped off drug dealers). On a brilliant show, some of the best moments on The Wire involved Omar strolling the streets of Baltimore in a billowy coat humming “The Farmer in the Dell.” If you have not seen him heading to the store in blue satin pajamas to find Honey Nut Cheerios, you don’t know what you”re missing.
- We love romance. Not entertainment that is specifically about romance. (Yeah, Hallmark Specials, looking at you.) We like drama and suspense that includes romance. We are shippers of epic proportions. Our beloved Sleepy Hollow gives us the vapors because Katrina stands in the way of “Ichabbie.” Every shippable couple needs a legit spoiler, though, so she’s just doing her job. And we can still hold out hope that she’s going to turn out to be the Big Bad.
- While we’re on the subject of Sleepy Hollow,” it lovingly embraces every trope, it’s absolutely absurd in the best possible way. The dialog is delicious and the cast shares chemistry. If you’re not watching it yet, there’s still time to get plenty of background info from the “Who’s Who” list and there are weekly recaps of Season 2. If you don’t watch it, give it a look. And if you do watch it, please leave a comment and tell us what makes you a Sleepyhead.
