The Bachelorette Season 11 — Episode 6
Our special contributor and Bachelorette aficionado Andrée H. has strong feelings for Shawn a lot to say about the latest episode. Psst! Kaitlyn, watch your back, Andrée’s coming for you!
This week’s Bachelorette starts with the men’s reaction to Nick strolling into the hotel suite; they want to hear what he has to say. Nick tells them that he’s here for the right reasons because Kaitlyn seems like a “cool chick” and he wanted to meet her and explore the spark that ignited on Twitter. The men jump on that asking, “Wait, is she a cool chick, or an amazing woman?” and “Are you here for here for for 16 minutes of fame?” Andy Warhol would not approve of Nick trying to greedily nab that extra minute!
Josh and Tanner grill Nick about tabloid reports that he’d been recently seen with former Bachelorette Andi Dorfman —who dumped Nick for Josh in the finale. Although not too vocal during the introduction, my Shawn is clearly hurt and tells the camera that his guard is going back up. Kaitlyn best do some damage control quickly because losing Shawn would definitely be the worst decision of her life.
The cocktail party and rose ceremony take place at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets. Josh, Tanner, and Shawn all use their time with Kaitlyn to discuss their opinions about Nick joining the group. Shawn tells Kaitlyn that his guard is going back up. She claims Nick’s arrival doesn’t change anything and says, “I’ve told you from day one how strong I feel about our connection, this is not taking away from that.” Shawn doesn’t seem convinced. He’s so sexy when he’s brooding. I just love me a tortured hottie.
Moving on. The rose ceremony takes place and the rejects Corey, Jonathan and Ryan B., head off the field to wherever it is they live and Kaitlyn announces she and the remaining guys are leaving freezing New York. They are going to San Antonio, TX.
The first one-on-one date is with Ben H. My thoughts: It’s a super boring date, but with a really hot guy, so still watchable. They go to the oldest dance hall in Texas to learn two-step and take part in a dance contest. At one point Ben says, “Dancing is really Kaitlyn’s thing.” That just about sums it up, all of these dates are about Kaitlyn’s bucket list. Ben H. tries, he sucks, she tries and is slightly better. The show tries to make us believe they are good enough to make it through the first round. They do, but then they are quickly eliminated. Over the requisite romantic dinner, Ben H. opens up about his former long-distance relationship, all is well, Kaitlyn gives him a rose.
The first group date is a spectacle. Once again Kaitlyn makes the guys compete, they have to write mariachi songs and serenade her. Who will win Kaitlyn’s heart? Who cares? I mean, really, plan better group dates. The guys get pissed off when Nick is the only one who puts a little thought and star power into his performance. Nick leads Kaitlyn up to a balcony and sings, “We have such a good connection, it gives me such a huge erection.” which to a frisky girl like Kaitlyn has got to be the best line she’s heard all week.
Cocktail party time! Josh has some curious ideas. First he tells Kaitlyn he wants to be blindfolded and let her cut his hair. She starts to shave it, screws up, tries turning it into a mohawk, but the buzzer dies and he comes out looking like a rooster on life support. Wonderful.
Not content to just walk around with an unfortunate haircut, Joshua starts drama. He confronts Nick for no reason, at the cocktail party, to tell Nick he doesn’t trust him. Josh then pulls Kaitlyn aside for the second time that night and tattles that none of the men trust or like Nick. Josh returns to the party and lies to all the guys telling them he was just doing an interview. Kaitlyn arrives and confronts the men, no one backs Joshua, so he looks like a straight-up fool. While the guys stand around, Kaitlyn says she needs to follow her heart, she gives Nick the group-date rose.
Next comes the best part of the show, that’s right, it’s a one-on-one Shawn date. They kayak through the river walk, his muscular arms rowing and mmm it was wonderful. They sit on the grass and kiss, but his beautiful face looks conflicted. Shawn tells Kaitlyn that he feels bad for Joshua because Josh expressed the views of some of the other men, but they were afraid to speak up. After Kaitlyn reconfirms that what she is feeling for Shawn is intense, he loosens up. Shawn tells the camera he’s ready to fully open up to Kaitlyn that night. At dinner, he tells her that he is falling in love, Kaitlyn says she feels the same! She gives him the rose, they make out and then she tells him she’s got another surprise. That surprise — is a freaking shout-out to The Notebook! Kaitlyn and Ryan Gosling —I mean Shawn —climb into a boat, he rows them out to the middle of the lake, they make out some more and then watch well-timed fireworks. It would have been epic if it was a kiss in the rain, but the fact that they gave me my Notebook moment made this whole season worth it!
At the cocktail party, Kaitlyn’s flying high from her picture-perfect date with her future husband the night before. The Bachelorette reminds the guys that it is all about honesty, and the evening starts off in the usual fashion. What she doesn’t know is that Ian has been having second thoughts. He tells the camera that he doesn’t find Kaitlyn all that interesting, she is only half as hot as his ex-girlfriend and that he can’t understand why she isn’t falling for him. He is, after all, a Princeton-educated ex-model with a great job and a great personality. Ian forgets to mention that he’s modest and doesn’t have a sense of entitlement. Ian summons Kaitlyn and tells her in the spirit of honesty, that he expected the girl who had her heart-broken by Chris Soules, not the girl that said she wanted Chris to plow her field. He got the latter. He is here for love, unlike the other guys who according to him make poop and fart jokes. He accuses her of being here to make out with men on TV and calls her shallow.
We don’t yet get to hear Kaitlyn’s response to any of this, but the look on her face says it all: Bye, Felicia.
The previews reveal that Kaitlyn slept with someone and Shawn is crying about it. Kaitlyn slept with someone and it wasn’t Shawn!?!??!?! Vote her off — no rose for Kaitlyn.
