Sleepy Hollow “The Akeda” — Dec. 1, 2014
Theme: Sacrifices.
It’s all hands on deck to defeat Moloch. Even Abraham is sort of helpful. As the End of Days begins, Ichabod and Abbie race to Frederick’s Manor. Ugh, nothing worse than car trouble when you’re trying to halt an Apocalypse. AAA takes too long, so you gotta commandeer a motorcycle.
Quotable Ichabbie:
Ichabod: Right. Where do I buckle?
Abbie: Arms around me.
Ichabod: Right. Of course. But where do I buckle?
Abbie: No buckle. You normally wear a helmet but again, you get a bye when it’s the End of Days.
Ichabod: Perhaps there is a stable nearby…
Prisoner of Love: At Frederick’s Manor, Crane and Lieutenant Mills find Katrina in trouble as usual. Headless has her tied up for the binding ritual in order to make her his bride. Ichabod and Abbie rescue Katrina as usual. It just wouldn’t be an episode without that one in peril. Maybe Jenny can teach her jujitsu. Ichabod subdues the Horseman and demands to know where Moloch is. Katrina uses the amulet enabling the Horseman to appear in the form of Abraham. It seems like Van Brunt did that last week without her help, but okay, Show. An uncharacteristically helpful Abraham drops some bad news about the Sword of Methuselah Ichabbie found last week: whoever wields it will lose their life and soul. Katrina argues that Abraham may be telling the truth and pleads to keep keep him alive or something. Guess that would be keep him undead? Katrina and Abraham sitting in a tree…. Abraham is locked up in the hexed cell. Abbie pokes the bear and Ichabod admits that his marriage has been strained.
Truth or Consequences: Jenny arrives and finds a passage which proves Abraham was telling the truth. Jenny comes up with a solution: The sword can’t consume the soul of someone who doesn’t have one, find Captain Irving who already gave up his soul. Maybe Frank can use the weapon without dying. Jenny tracks down Irving who agrees to help. He’s taken to Abraham’s cell and taunts that Moloch hasn’t treated Abraham all that well. Irving threatens Van Brunt to tell him where Moloch is or he’ll use the sword. Abraham sings like a canary. Irving is ready to take him down, but Katrina pleads for Abraham’s life again. What is up with that? Miss Jenny and Ichabod go to find someone more useful than Katrina: Hawley. He balks at giving them his weapons until he sees that it’s hailing blood. Hawley is not unreasonable…. After overhearing his wife tell Abraham that she cares for him, Ichabod calls the witch on it later. He’s hoping she has Stockholm syndrome. Katrina doesn’t have a good answer to explain her closeness to Abraham so the two have words and agree to consider themselves soldiers and nothing more. Ichabbie shippers approve.
Well, that Backfired: Henry is once again trying to win Moloch’s approval, but the horned one just snarls at him. Moloch is kind of an ass. The horned one summons his army of demons who engage in a gun battle with Ichabbie and Co. The Horseman of War appears and Irving cuts him down. The Horseman actually melts, but Henry is still standing. He apparently used remote control or something to operate War. Irving got wounded in the fight and collapses. Ichabod calls Katrina to use her magic, but it doesn’t work because she sucks. Our beloved Irving dies. We don’t believe that for a minute, but okay, Show. Abbie does a slow-mo run to Irving, but Ichabod restrains her. There is a lot of hair waving in the breeze. You better resurrect Irving, Show.
Family Drama: Moloch orders Henry to get the sword, but Henry doesn’t know how to do that without his armor. Moloch’s all, Welp, there were Horsemen before and there will be Horseman after. Wait, what does that mean? Aren’t there only four Horsemen? Where is the job security? Despite it all, Henry goes to fight with his parents and is his usual bratty self. You can’t kill me: nah-nah-nah-nah! Henry claims the sword can’t hurt him because he’s an immortal. He grabs it and takes his parents to meet Moloch.
Cliffhanger: As Moloch commands Henry to kill his mother, Ichabod offers to sacrifice himself. Henry finally does what we’ve all been waiting for, he turns the sword on … Moloch. Good, we were so over him.
Sleepy Hollow is now going to take a break, which is good because while we’ve enjoyed some parts of this season, it’s time for the show to really get it in gear. How? Well find out what we want to do to fix Sleepy Hollow.
Hmmmm, I wonder…. Abbie, Ichabod, and Katrina were tied to trees, right? But when the show came back from break, Abbie and Ichabod were both lying at the base of the trees, but Katrina was on the other side of the clearing. What was up with that. There’s a story in there somewhere. Maybe the producers are trying to be clever and there really is a shady twist in her story… Maybe?
I have thought the same thing. The show is the one who painted her a liar (that’s non some wild fantasy that Ichabbie fans came up with) and the show devised this odd plot of her running off with the Horseman. Unless the writers are clinically insane, I believe they are setting Katrina up as the Big Bad, which would make her infinitely more interesting.
