10 Reasons to Love Sleepy Hollow’s Jenny Mills
We have been celebrating tomorrow night’s Sleepy Hollow Season 3 premiere, with a seven-day lovefest. Yes, we are completely in love with Abbie Mills and swoon over that damn sexy hobo Ichabod Crane, but there’s another Team Witness member we adore, Abbie’s sister, the smart and nuanced action girl, Miss Jenny Mills.
- Jenny is honest to a fault. After that first childhood encounter with Moloch in the woods, Jenny was forthcoming about the supernatural occurrence. That didn’t work out so well because the teen was then branded insane and spent a lot of time at Tarrytown Psychiatric, but you have to admire her commitment to the truth. When they urgently needed to enlist Henry in order to save Ichabod’s life, Abbie claimed to have a warrant, but Jenny pointed out that was not the case. Again “to a fault.” Fortunately, she didn’t say it loud enough for Henry to hear and Lieutenant Mills’ gambit worked.
- That said, Jenny is discreet. Sheriff Corbin took her into his confidence about demonic activity — something he didn’t even share with his protégée and surrogate daughter, Abbie. Jenny never let on that he tasked her with traveling the world in search of rare artifacts.
- Jenny is a professional. She received weapons and demo training in Mexico and learned insurgent tactics in South Sudan.
- Jenny is not one to be trifled with. In “The Lesser Key of Solomon,” she told Ichabod that she: “Sent a drug czar home in a box.” An impressed Crane hailed Miss Jenny as a freedom fighter.
- She lives by a code. Miss Mills told Ichabod: “I kind of learned long ago that if you don’t fight for the things you stand for, you don’t really stand for them.”
- Jenny is witty. Upon meeting Ichabod, she asked: “What do your friends call you? ‘Icky?'” When one of Katrina’s warnings was too vague, Jenny remarked: “Well, the next time you see that witch in a dream, tell her to be more specific.”
- Miss Mills has encyclopedic knowledge. Oh, looking for a sin eater? Jenny’s the one who explains what they do and can track one down, even if he uses many aliases.
- Jenny can go it alone. Using Corbin’s voice records, Jenny is the one who decoded Moloch’s warning: “The saint’s name is a sign,” and figured out that seemingly benevolent Henry was working for the dark side.
- She’s sensitive. After Katrina died, Jenny offered her condolences to the grieving widower. (She, of course, didn’t know that the witch tried to kill Abbie.) Captain Irving didn’t have much of a reaction to Mrs. Crane’s demise; he had just regained his soul, so maybe he was still processing.
- Jenny knows how to save herself. With Abbie stuck in Purgatory and Ichabod buried alive, Jenny was all alone in a warehouse with Henry’s minions. When she was tied to a chair, some Hessian extra started touching her face. One can only assume what he was thinking, but as Abbie demonstrated in “Tempus Fugit,” don’t give off a rapey vibe because the Mills sisters will take you down. Jenny kicked the potential perv in the groin and head-butted him while she was still in restraints, mind you. Did we mention that she had just been in a car wreck, and the vehicle flipped over? She had a head wound, had been mind-violated by Henry, was outnumbered and still served up some Sarah Connor realness.
We’d love to read your insightful comments on Jenny. They don’t appear immediately, but we promise we’ll get to them.
The Sleepy Hollow season premiere airs tomorrow at 9/8c on Fox.
